NEW DELHI (November 28, 2012)–The shameful and regrettable incident in Gurudwara Rakab Ganj Sahib has brought shame to the Sikhs all over the World. The haughty President of the Gurudwara Committee has disgraced the teachings of the Gurus. If one respectable elected member of the Delhi Committee met such shabby treatment and gets his Turban thrown and is given a grievous head injury, then we shudder to think what treatment an ordinary devotee will get at the hands of such leaders. This reminds us of earlier days before the Gurudwara Movement when the ‘Mahants’ who were in charge of the Gurudwaras, acting on the behest of then British Rulers, had the ordinary Sikhs burnt alive within the Gurudwara premises.

Even if an un-invited elected member of the Gurudwara Committee or even a devotee or any other person, if he enters the Room where Executive Committee Meeting was being held, he could have been asked politely to the leave the room and if he insisted the President could have adjourned the meeting. But to order the employees of the DSGMC who have been recruited as ‘Task Force’ to beat them and even when the respected member left the Committee Room, he was chased in the Parking Lot and attacked with 3 ft Kirpans and Lathies and was given a grave injury on the Head. No Sikh or any  person will accept such inhumane behavior.

The background of all this happening is the delay in the election to the DSGMC. Which the Delhi Government and the Central Government are delaying for last 1½ years. The direct responsibility of this avoidable incident falls on the Delhi Government and its Chief Minister and being a Sikh, the Prime Minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh will also have to bear the responsibility.

The Sikh Forum and the Sikhs of Delhi forcefully condemn this regrettable incident. We appeal to the Delhi and Central Government that they should honor the directions of the honorable Supreme Court which has directed that the election should be held before 12/31/2012.  Delhi Govt.  should announce the election schedule immediately and the government should avoid playing with the sentiments of the Sikh Community.

On behalf of the Members of the Sikh Forum :

Maj. Gen. M.S. Chadha – President, Dr. Anup Singh, Dr. Maheep Singh, Dr. A.S. Narang, S. Harbhajan Singh Nishkam, S. Tarlochan Singh- IAS, Col. Manohar Singh.
